Tabnabbing Attack with social Engineering toolkit on Backtrack | kali

Hi everyone here is the post that basically explain about very fundamental attack known to be tab nabbing attack.the attack is very simple again you sent an link to the victim he/she click on it and redirected to your desired login page which looks like original and the after putting his/her credentials you get that in no time . 
so lets do this with social engineering toolkit as here more social engineering trick is very necessary . 
So before doing all do check your own BT/Kali System IP address by typing ifconfig command. 
then Open Your Backtrack terminal and Type cd /pentest/exploits/set 
Now Open Social Engineering Toolkit (SET) ./set

it will ask for your system ip which you can give that you got from ifconfig (your backtrack machine ip) 
Then Enter the URL of the site you want to clone. In this case http://www.facebook.com and hit enter. SET will clone up the web site. And press return to continue.

Computer offences can be defined as a crime in which a computer, or a network of computers, are used in the commission of the crime. If an individual takes advantage of the internet in the commission of a crime, this is sometimes called a net-crime. 
 
The direct victim of a computer crime can either be the computer, or network, itself. These crimes can victimize something independent of the network such as a consumer by simply using a computer during the crime. 
 
Crimes that target computers specifically include things such as the implementation of computer viruses. Another type of this crime is sometimes referred to as a denial-of-service attack which is aimed at bringing down a particular network. The introduction of malware to a network is also a direct attack on a computer. Examples of malware are trojan horses and spyware. These are forms of unwanted software which infect a computer and are also referred to as a computer contaminant. 
Cyber terrorism is a form of this type of crime in which the perpetrator attempts to bring down a large scale computer network to interrupt its users and create panic. 
 
Examples of computer crimes with independent victims are cyberstalking, identity theft, and phishing. 
 
Some other common examples that are often publicized in the media are the distribution of child pornography and hate propaganda. Cyber terrorism and those distributing hate propaganda are directly linked because they are often perpetrated by the same organization or organizations with similar goals. 
 
With such a variety of offenses related to the cyber world, many worry that they will be subject to prosecution if they wander into an inappropriate website or inadvertently spread malware. The truth of the matter is that in the majority of state and federal statutes regulating computer crimes, the laws are written specifically to target those who indicate that they "knowingly" and/or "willingly" perpetrated one of these offenses. 
 
The agents who investigate these crimes, along with the prosecutor, carry the burden of showing that a person had the intent to commit the computer crime. A knowledgeable criminal lawyer can provide the expertise to defend those who may find themselves prosecuted for something that they did not have the intent to commit.

An intrusion detection system has a number of sensors that is used to detect unwanted or unexpected flow of network traffic, the major sensors as follows: 
 
<li>A sensor monitor log files 
 
<li>A sensor monitor TCP ingoing or outgoing connections

How Intrusion Detection System Works? 
</h2>Intrusion detection system works by collecting information and then examining it.IDS collects data from it sensors and analyze this data to give notice to the system administrator about malicious activity on the network. 
 
<li> An intrusion detection system can be run manually but most IT administrators find it easier to automate the system checks to ensure that nothing is accidentally overlooked. 
 
<li> We can mainly categorize an IDS into two type: 
 
1. NIDS (Network Intrusion Detection Systems). 
2. HIDS (Host Intrusion Detection Systems) 
 
There is still a question, why we use IDS if there is firewall to perform these tasks, Firewall is used to stop unwanted traffic from entering or leaving the internal enterprise network, where as the IDS is deployed to monitor traffic in vital segments in the network, generating alerts when an intrusion is detected. 
 
A firewall has got holes to let things through, without it you wouldn't be able to access the Internet or send or receive emails, there are different ways to bypass or cheat a firewall. 
 
Snort is an excellent open source Network Intrusion Detection System, OSSEC is an Open Source Host-based Intrusion Detection System. 
 
Below is an an overview of the basic architecture as well as practical examples of how to customize Open Source Host-based Intrusion Detection System to manage logging from your infrastructure and applications.

in various case i find some new born hacker able to get the user id and password by sql injection but still they give up as they unable to find the admin login panel so if you are in search of admin login panel of a website then this post will help you for sure. 
 
Method 1:Adding URL 
This is the first and easiest method to find admin login page. You can add some words 
after the URL.Like

<li>www.site.com/admin.php 
 
Method 2:<a href="http://www.darksite.co.in/2012/06/online-admin-page-finder-perl-python.html">Using Various Script</a> 
You can use various scripts like various admin finder to get the admin page.Here I am 
showing you an useful scripts which will help you to get the admin page.(I will release my own admin finder script soon and upadte here) 
To run this script you first need to install Active Perl.get it from

Now copy the code of <a href="http://pastebin.com/WWZszURW">http://pastebin.com/WWZszURW</a> and save it as anything.pl and 
run the script to get the login page of the desired site.(Remember its a python Script). 
 
Method 3:Crawling software 
You can use various crawling tool to crawl the website and get the login page. These 
website crawl all the pages of the website and show the list of all pages and 
directories.

By default various search engines crawl the entire site and by using robots.txt the site 
owner actually gives the list of links that are not to be crawled by the engine. 
Now most 
of the time the admin ask the engine not to crawl the admin page so if you view the 
robots.txt you can get the link to the login page.

A hacker can launch various types of attacks such as Packet sniffing(capturing) or ARP Poisoning to steal your sensitive information. 
 
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is the most widely used technology for creating a secure communication between the web client and the web server. You must be familiar with http:// protocol and https:// protocol, You might be wondering what they mean. HTTP protocol is used for standard communication between the Web server and the client. HTTPS is used for a secure communication.

If two users want to have a secure communication they can also use cryptography to accomplish it

See the above example i have used simple encryption and decryption Algorithm=+ for the communication and the key is "1", What comes after D is E so as you can see that S is converted into T, What comes After E is F to letter E from the word secure if converted into F and so on, To help you understand this more better I am adding a Video.

So If the hacker starts sniffing from between he will get Encrypted text and as the Hacker does not know the keys so he cant decrypt it, but if the attacker or hacker is sniffing from the starting point so he will get the key and can easily Decrypt the data

Suppose there exists two communication parties A (client) and B (server) 
Standard communication(HTTP) 
When A will send information to B it will be in unencrypted manner, this is acceptable if A is not sharing Confidential information, but if A is sending sensitive information say "Password" it will also be in unencrypted form, If a hacker starts sniffing the communication so he will get the password.This scenario is illustrated using the following figure

In a secure communication i.e. HTTPS the conversation between A and B happens to be in a safe tunnel, The information which a user A sends to B will be in encrypted form so even if a hacker gets unauthorized access to the conversion he will receive the encrypted password (“xz54p6kd“) and not the original password.This scenario is illustrated using the following figure

A HTTPS protocol can be implemented by using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL), A website can implement HTTPS by purchasing SSL certificate. 
Which websites need SSL Certificate? 
The websites where a private conversation is occurred, Websites related to online transactions or other sensitive information needs to be protected needs to SSL Certificate 
 
How to identify a Secure Connection? 
 
In Internet Explorer and google chrome, you will see a lock icon in the Security Status bar. The Security Status bar is located on the right side of the Address bar. You can click the lock to view the identity of the website.

The easiest way for hackers to install malware (bad programs) on your computer is by convincing you to install them yourself. Most malware on the Web hides as small but useful-sounding programs. For example, new screen savers, new chat applications, and minor desktop improvements. 
Know what you are downloading 
The software you thought you were installing quietly installs a few extra programs you didn’t ask for. Some of these programs display ads, some of them report details about your computer to hackers, some of them may even open ports—short for portals—that allow hackers to access your computer. 
 
<li>Don’t Trust Email (Ignore spam or Advt. Emails ) 
 
Do you trust your mother? Of course you do, so why wouldn’t you download the attachment she sent you in her latest email? 
 
Viruses know that people trust their friends and family, and they often exploit this by sending rouge emails containing viruses to unsuspecting users. It’s not that your mother would ever intentionally try to infect your computer with a virus—she doesn’t know the attachment she sent you contains a virus. 
 
A specific type of hacker called phisers also use fake emails from respected Internet companies to try to get your passwords. After they get your password, they’ll try to use it to empty your online bank accounts. 
 
All of this means only one thing: don’t trust email. Don’t download attachments unless they’re in in a safe file format. Don’t click on links in your email and enter your password. With the state of email today, it’s ok to be a little paranoid. There are a few things for you to do to try and stop spam emails, but again it takes common sense mostly. 
 
<li>Investigate 
 
Is there something goofy about your computer? Is it running slow? Are you getting strange error messages? Is your ISP complaining that you’re sending too many emails? 
 
All of these problems need to be investigated. Viruses often use your computer processing power for evil, making your computer run slow. 
 
If you see a problem, start investigating it and don’t stop until you figure out what the problem was. Otherwise you risk letting a small virus install bigger, worse viruses. 
 
 
<li>Restrict Administrative Access 
 
In a household or office where many people share computers, everyone is at the mercy of everyone else. No matter how safe you try to keep your computer safe hand else, anyone else with administrator access can install a virus-infected program. 
 
In these multi-user environments, it pays to restrict administrator access to only the users who know how to keep the computer safe. In fact, I suggest you create just one administrator account for each computer and then give every user their own non-administrator account.

Each site you use should have a different password—or, at the very least, you should use a different password for each site with access to your financial information. Protecting your online accounts is extremely important so do not neglect this! 
 
 
<li>Encrypt Sensitive Files 
 
The only thing that can protect your sensitive files is encryption. Higher-end versions of Windows include encryption, but you can also download a free encryption utility that provides just as much security (if not more—Microsoft is under pressure by some governments to put a “back door” into their encryption.) 
To secure your files against hackers and other prying eyes, I suggest the free TrueCrypt encryption software. 
 
 
<li>Use A Firewall 
 
There’s a big difference between good and bad anti-virus software, but the same isn’t true of firewall software. Even the free firewall that comes with all recent versions of Windows will fully protect your computer against automatic network virus attacks. Just make sure you turn it on in the control panel. 
 
Always its a sign of a good computer to have a firewall i strongly recommends not to use windows firewall because that is very weak and easy to break (from hackers point of view )so always good to use different free available firewall.

2) and also download the text file and key file

Now the Real Steps... 
 
NOTE:- Disconnect your internet connection before proceeding 
 
Step1:Run the kaspersky setup file.... 
 
Step2:Now click on Insert activation code or manage license from the right bottom of the kaspersky window. 
 
Step3:click on enter activation code and.. put the code which you have download.. (txt file) 
 
Step4:open text file and copy the key and paste at the kaspersky window... and click on next... 
 
Step5:then browse the key file which you have downloaded...

1. URL based 
2. Form based 
 
Major reason for both of them is 'badly architectured parametres' 
many say That remove/rename or unlink the database configuration file, ofcourse this will work but this is NOT the solution, as it will halt the functionality of the site, your 
Dynamic website will turn into just html pages in seconds, this is anologus to condition like, because of fear of robbery you don't buy anything for yourself too: P 
what we will be doing is sanitizing and validating php variables, we have make sure That our critical global arrays like get, post, files, session, cookies etc allow data which we 
Want them to store and nothing else, because we can't trust the fact that users will enter expected data. What we mean is suppose you have site script like this: 
 
blabla.com/news.php?id=8 
 
Now what dis means is, in our "news.php" script (in global GET array) we have an array location $_GET[id] which contains the value which is being passed via URL, 
In our case it is '8', what usually careless admins do is, pass on the get[] as it is to the database query which is to be executed so that proper content for id=8 
Can be extracted from database and thrown on the user screen, SQL query can be like : 
 
$news_query = "SELECT * FROM news WHERE NEWS ='".$_GET['id']."'"; 
 
Now if we manipulate the URL and write 'something' in place of 'expected' integer then we may break normal query and can execute our own queries! 
by breaking a query i mean, as in the above example we wrote 
 
NEWS ='$_GET[id]' 
 
if instead of expected id we write something like ==> 8'; eval_query; # 
now what our new url is ==> blabla.com/news.php?id=8'; eval_query; # 
our new query becomes ==> $news_query = "SELECT * FROM news WHERE NEWS ='8'; eval_query; #'; 
# is used to comment out query part after it, so now as u can see our "eval query" will be executed with normal expected query, eval query can be { DROP TABLE news} which will drop the "news"! 
we can prevent this if instead of directly using get[] variable in query we first validate them and then use them, by validating I mean, we make sure that URL variables contains 
only that data which we want them to store and nothing else (in this case, we want integers for id values), this depend on the programming of the script, we may sometimes want alphabets(lower case or upper case or both), 
numbers, some special characters etc . . . php gives us some function to do the same : 
in this case we can use "preg_replace" or maybe 'ereg_replace', i advertise preg_replace cause it has lot more functionality and is faster than ereg :) [you can search php.net if you want details about them] 
so here we want only numbers in id fiels so we wil add this line before querying it : 
 
$id = $_GET['id']; 
$vald_id = preg_replace('#[^0-9]#i', '', $id); 
 
first line is getting id variable from url via get and storing it in local variable $id, next we are cleaning it using preg_replace, so that it only contains numbers from 0-9 (if anything else is there it will replace it with a blank.space) and nothing else, we will use this cleaned variable 
$vald_id in our query. 
if we want some(defined) special characters along with alphabets we can write (in place of [^0-9]) : 
 
preg_replace('#[^A-Za-z,.?$@!]#i', '', $id); 
 
Now how to patch panels/forms of sites against sql 
suppose there is an admin panel say 
 
blabla.com/admin/ 
 
hit [ctrl+u] view source, crawl source and search for [action=], cause every html form will be processin and submitting form elements using php scripts, if its written something like 
action="" ==> this means php script is calling itself and its processing is done in same script 
if instead there ist written : 
action="login.php" [it can also call lol.php dosn't matter :P] 
this means all form data goes to login.php processed there and then sent to database. Main culprit is login.php because it is not filtering variables correcty! 
go to login.php, it wil be having lines looking like 
 
$username = $_POST['user']; 
$pass=$_POST['pass']; 
$loginquery = "SELECT * FROM tbl_admin WHERE username ='$username' AND password = '$pass'"; 
$result = mysql_query($loginquery); 
 
so we need to clean POST array elements before using them in a query 
we will use preg_replace as before and we will also use 
strip_tags as we don't want any html javascript elements in our form data, 
basic syntax is ==> strip_tags($variable) 
if you want to allow certain tags like 
then we can also do that as ==> strip_tags($var, '')
